IDAHO Exhibition Returns
In May 2010, Sydney will host an exhibition commemorating IDAHO – International Day Against Homophobia – and it’s currently calling out for artists to submit their work. The theme is “love combating fear”.
We all need more love in this world and so artists and students are being asked to submit their work which expressing their personal responses to homophobia for the exhibition which will be held at Kudos Gallery in Paddington, in May 2010. All participants are encouraged to explore issues surrounding homophobia and/or identity as Gay, Lesbian, Transgender, Intersex or Queer and Questioning (GLBTQ) members of the community.
“The exhibition aims to initiate a discussion about the pervasive nature of homophobia and increase awareness that vilification and violence based on sexual orientation or perceived orientation is illegal and unacceptable,” says Genesis Mansilongan, Queer Officer at UNSW’s College Of Fine Arts and spokesperson for the exhibition.
“Through the exhibition IDAHO Sydney will create awareness about the impacts of homophobia, encourage those who have experienced it and support International Day Against Homophobia.”
IDAHO Sydney is a non-profit community based initiative. IDAHO the Exhibition is on at Kudos Gallery, 6 Napier Street, Paddington, NSW from 18 May – 29 May 2010. To submit your work register at www.idahosydney.org.
