ChillOut In Trouble

On the week before Christmas celebrations begin, Chillout – one of Australia’s biggest queer rural festivals – has suddenly terminated its contract with their event management team, the Adam Lowe Group. ChillOut had only officially appointed the Adam Lowe Group a few months ago.

According to the media statement issued by the festival today, the departure could mean that the future of the 2010 Victorian festival is in question. Organisers have set an emergency meeting prior to Christmas to work on a possible solution or whether or not the festival would or should go ahead from March 5 to 7, 2010.

According to Chillout president Adam Wright, the “Space Odyssey” themed festival will still happen.

“This is a difficult time for us and the end of the contract with ALG places us in a challenging position with the 2010 festival just two months away… But we remain fully focused on delivering the 2010 ChillOut Festival,” Wright said.

“We need to effect an orderly handover of the management of the festival and ensure that we are able to go ahead without the services of [Adam Lowe Group]… Once that is done, we expect to be moving on with bringing our community the best ChillOut festival ever.”

No reason as yet was issued from Chillout for the contract termination with The Adam Lowe Group, who are also incidentally in charge of the management of Melbourne’s queer festival, Midsumma. Both ChillOut and the management group have been contacted and Same Same is awaiting an official response.
