The End Of Australian Idol?

In news that is sure to have Same Samers reaching for a Kleenex, reports have emerged that after eight long years Australian Idol is no more.

ABC.net reports that despite an assurance from host Andrew G at the end of last year’s grand final broadcast that the show would be back, Channel Ten plans to ‘rest’ Australian Idol in 2010. With 2 million less people tuning into the recent finale then in 2003 and a notably lacklustre top twelve, the reported axing comes as a surprise to few.

Although Channel Ten are refusing to comment, Eddy Current advocate Ian ‘Dicko’ Dickson has revealed that his contract will not be renewed in 2010.

Whatever will become of Sunday nights in this country without wannabes destroying classic Queen songs to entertain us?

I enjoyed Idol because you could see the talent in its natural form before the industry people grooms and sells it to the masses.

Professional karaoke teenagers who are instructed on when & in what context to emote, pitch their voices, dress & dance in time to their *interpretation* of a pre-recorded backing tape. Gee. Wonder why Aussie Idol is palliative. lol

But it's still amazing, and I'm sure inspiring to some, to see these people lose all the weight. I'm sure quite a lot of them put it back on after the show, but it's still cool to see the transformations. And it's fun to eat pizza while watching.

I blame Marcia. I've heard about her coked out nights at Arq. But it's still amazing, and I'm sure inspiring to some, to see these people lose all the weight. The transformations are amazing but at what cost?

Aussie Idol did give us Anthony Callea and Guy Sebastian (probally the most successful of them all), Jessica Mauboy and Rikki Lee appear to be gaining popularity currently so the show hasn't been totally a waste of time guys. I say dump biggest loser and keep Aussie idol for this year.
