T2 To Become Bicycle Hub

The building at Taylor Square which once housed notoriously violent, homophobic pub T2, as well as the much loved Manacle venue in the basement, has been purchased by City Of Sydney, and will be converted into the city’s first cycling hub.

It’s yet another attempt by the Council to do something with what has essentially become dead space. According to reports from Sydney Morning Herald, the hub will include a bike repair centre, bike shop, a bicycle hire scheme, an outdoor cafe and shower facilities. It’s understood that the Council bought the venue for $5.5 million from Ranglen Investments.

‘’We want to create a first-class facility and a nerve centre for Sydney’s cycling community,’’ Lord Mayor, Clover Moore told the Herald. ‘’The centre is part of a vision to restore Taylor Square to a people-friendly precinct. We are looking at ways to activate the area to make it more lively, attractive and safe.’’

I think this is a fantastic and really exciting move by the Council. Finally a development in the area that focuses on something other than drinking and clubbing. Maybe it will help to encourage more day time businesses to start opening up again. But above all else it means that the T2 building will no longer house a disgusting and violent club/pub that attracted so many problems to the area. Using it as a bicycle hub makes sense considering it is right on the Bourke Street cycleway

If we are talking about the Courthouse I agree, it could be as simple as getting rid of the outdoor smoking area...... ......... hideous, I often witness their 'stunning' patrons passing comments on passers by - if not asking for a dollar or a cigarette. Just plain filthy. No wonder the lure went bust - that was a great cafe.
