Kyle Sandilands may have lost his job at Australian Idol, but he’s weathered last year’s media-storm, and will now be joining Dannii Minogue on Channel Seven’s Australia’s Got Talent.
In an interview with Seven’s Sunrise show, Sandilands told of how Minogue called him in LA, where he is currently stationed, to congratulate him.
“When Dannii Minogue is on the phone and says ‘I would love nothing better than sitting alongside you’ … well,” he said.
When asked about his move to Channel Seven he joked, “Look, well, because I got fired from the other network and you guys were kind enough to come knocking… I am broadening my horizons on [Australia’s Got Talent] and the opportunity came knocking and it was too good to pass up. The thing is, everyone loves a good singer and everyone loves a good dancer, the great thing is it’s up to what talent walks up throughout the series. We’ve seen some strange things on Idol and I am sure it’s going to get stranger.”
Sandilands also confirmed that he hadn’t been asked to water down his often caustic persona. He went on to say that he had learned a lot from last year’s dramas, where he hooked a teenager up to a lie detector on air, and made light of concentration camps.
“The thing I learned last year was my humour might not work with everyone’s humour. I always about a little bit of fun and sometimes in the past I might have stepped over the mark and some might say I have jumped over the mark on occasion.”
