The Brisbane Queer Film Festival is back for 2010. It’s in its 11th year and still going strong, bringing Brisbane another dose of the best and most exciting queer filmage from around the world. Programmed by Festival Director Sarah Neal, who has over ten years experience in the film industry, audiences can expect a diverse, unique, sexy and thrilling selection of movies.
“After six months of combing the globe, I’ve put together a huge festival bringing a truly international program of queer cinema to Brisbane,” Sarah tells Same Same. “This year keep an eye out for films from Argentina, Finland and Israel. It’s always hard to chose just one film as a pick, but I have a soft spot for The Man Who Loved Ynvge, a fun and touching film of sexual discovery set in 1980’s Finland. There’s something for a wide variety of [film enthusiasts] from intensely personal – and fascinating – documentaries to edge of your seat thrillers. Come and join us!”
The festival runs from Friday April 9 through to Sunday the 18th, with opening night being the jewel in the crown, featuring the film Mr Right, a story that follows three gay couples living in London’s swinging Soho as they hanging on for dear life through the thrills and chills of their relationships. After the movie get ready to sweat as the iconic DJ Sveta pumps up the dance floor with one of her explosive sets, supported by Brisbane’s own sexy DJ diva, DJ ISH.
Also catch Pornography, an edgy supernatural thriller that blurs the lines between reality, dreams and fantasy. Expect a twisty, clever script, ample male nudity, and genuine suspense. Pornography screens Sunday 11 and Wednesday April 14.
The Big Gay Musical sees aspiring actors Paul and Eddie are beginning to see their dreams come true as they find themselves the stars of the popular off-Broadway musical comedy, “Adam and Steve Just the Way God made ‘Em.” The Big Gay Musical is a smart and sexy satire filled with lots of eye candy and catchy tunes and screens Sunday April 11.
And Then Came Lola is a fast-paced race against time, Lola has three chances to dash across the city to her partner’s rescue. No, this isn’t Run Lola Run but a sexy and hilarious lesbian homage to that classic rush of a film. And Then Came Lola screens Saturday 10th and Monday the 12th of April.
