Tony Abbott is coming under fire, again, and this time, from his own electorate – the group Manly Gay and Lesbian Community are holding a party in response to the Liberal leader’s comments, and they are inviting everyone to come along.
Tony Abbott raised the ire of the gay community last week, after he said he felt ‘threatened’ by homosexuality.
David Burrell, spokesperson for Manly Gay and Lesbian Community (MGLC), says the group has renamed its upcoming party, ‘Harmony. The “real” natural order of things’ and has asked greater Sydney to converge on Abbott’s electorate to protest his comments.
“We’d really like to invite greater Sydney and converge on [Abbott’s] electorate. I think it will send a really strong message,” Burrell told Same Same.
MGLC’s party at Henry Afrikas, opposite Manly beach, is scheduled for Saturday, March 20. The title refers to Abbott’s comments on ABC’s Lateline, when the Liberal leader said homosexuality “challenges…the right order of things.”
Abbott, the Federal Member for Warringah, in northern Sydney, is even being challenged on the topic of homosexuality by his own party.
Burrell says the Liberal Member for Manly and NSW Government Shadow Treasurer, Mike Baird, has accepted MGLC’s invitation to join the protest party later this month.
