“It’s time to shutdown Mardi Gras Anarchy!” declares the Christian Democrat Party with a hilarious new video.

NSW MP Fred (vile) Nile’s right-hand-man Peter Madden (pictured) is declaring war on Sydney’s Mardi Gras celebration – and is rustling up his troops to visit us on Parade night.

“Are you happy that the gay Mardi Gras will draw hundreds of thousands of drunken youth to Sydney’s streets to incite in them all manner of lust and filth?” a jealous Madden asks in the clip, which was popped onto YouTube today.

“Are you happy that the Greens, a Paganistic, anti-Christian front for the homosexual lobby, will hold the balance of power in the Senate, over the whole nation?” he also enquires.

“We must realize that we are at war. There is a spiritual battle raging around us, that we will lose unless we mobilize and do something about it.”

But what is that ‘something’? Is Madden inciting violence? A ‘BATTLECRY’ graphic is displayed throughout the video, looking worryingly militaristic.

No. Madden says he’s hoping people will join him for a “peaceful, non-confrontational, prayer and worship rally” at Martin Place on March 5 – better known to Same Samers as Mardi Gras Parade and Party night!

“Real men love God and stand for righteousness,” he rants. “Godly men and women are not afraid to stand up against the opinions of this generation, of its media, or the militant (!) homosexual lobby.

“I believe with all my heart that the fervent prayers of the mature sons and daughters of God can shut down the gay Mardi Gras, and turn the tide of evil that is rising amongst the youth in our nation!”

So watch out for Peter Madden on Mardi Gras Parade night – if all his supporters show up, he could be joined by as many as four people.

yes revenue for our state of nsw where I live therefore I benefit.

materialism and apathy is a modern disease and it is not about the gay community or mardi gras its everywhere.

We are on our way to getting equality its happening whether this church group likes it or not. They may have been able to slow it down but the tide is changing and it doesn't have to be a violent one. Its being done in parliament, in court and with activists craeting social change through the media and peaceful activism. Perhaps if we were in a country where we were fighting for the right to exist then maybe some force would be needed but we are fighting for the finer details such as marriage equality, anti descrimination laws and youth suicide programs. The church will die eventually it can't survive the way it is.

As for muscle men in glitter it sounds to me like your own homophobia and inadequacies are coming through. Mardi gras is still very much about self expresssion and freedom to be who you are. I am glad that if I want to march half naked in glitter I can or if I wanted to be in drag I could or if I wanted to wear alternative emo goth stuff like you that I could. Youa re very judgemental and black and white.

I say if you don't like mardi gras then stay in Melbourne and leave it for those of us who still enjoy it. You want to have a violent confrontation with these chuirch people then go ahead, stop talking about it, walk the walk, practise what you preach. Funny how Trans people barely rate a mention when it comes to NMG let alone achieve any visibility and respect from the rest of the G&L community...Amanda LePore leading the previous march does not count at all, DKG made that quite clear already. Tell me, do the Bisexual groups still march or have they removed themselves from the parade after the yearly tirades of abuse shouted at them from the bystanders who come for the parade?

Oh I intend to stay in Melbourne, at least Pride March here allows more space for people to freely jump into the parade without registering, which I have done each year since I came out. I always manage to gather some of the more alternative crowd together and a couple of DiY signs to remind people of the diversity of the Queer community and that not all of us are down for assimilationist reactionary bullshit.

I agree "our" MG has turned into a cum guzzling, booty jiggling, fund squandering festival of debauchery. Its not even a mere parody of its self anymore. Where's all the meaning gone, its all about tourist dollars and hot steaming turds on rainbow bagels. MG has a bad case of amnesia. We could achieve more meaning on a low budget and a bit of old fashioned imagination. MG as we knew it is dead. Only we can change it into something that is relevant again or not.

Personally I really feel I dont want to contribute to it in its current state. I'd rather do something worth while and go down to Marin place and take a stand against our old arch enemy religion. Atleast I would feel like I was doing something that appeared to be worth while. We are told to choose our battles carefully, I carefully choose this one. I think its important. The 78ers didnt guide us here without lifting a finger or taking some risks.

This doesn't mean I'm 'homophobic', or anti-partying or anti-hedonism. Quite the opposite. I just think the format and content needs to radically change and a strong political context could be the basis of a successful MG, as opposed to yet another parade of the same-old, where any political message is diluted by the tacky and daggy aesthetics.

Whereas the younger generation newly out / just turned 18 are busting for this as evidenced by the number of people willing to march.

I remember when it used to be broadcast on national free to air TV in the 1990s and it had a litte bit of edge to it still, there were floats that did make statements that were very pertinent at the time and there was the gym bunnies in their undies walking down the street as well...there was some form of balance, there was a massive Bear and Leather presence as well too...

I just remember Mum dragging me into the kitchen to watch it together over dinner...

Some guys who dress up all camp and over the top flamboyant do so because they say that "its all about expressing who you are", but here's the thing that I find strange is that these same guys don't normally dress up all camp and flamboyant any other time so how can they claim that "its all about expressing who you are"? I feel that if the parade is a going to be a celebration of sexuality then there needs to be more balance, and at Mardi Gras I tend to only see about five sides of the GLBT community represented in the parade. I suggest that some guys should drop the shit and actually be there true GLBT selves.

we are discussing the Parade. Not what they do for the rest of the year.

I work with and have lots of younger friends and I know that the younger
gen can be just as concerned about politics/the community . Being from another
generation doesnt make me oblivious.

When it comes the Parade most of them are gagging to be in the Marching boys
or some similar group.
Other times they are there at all the rallies protesting etc.

no different Ammi to under age kids getting alcohol and drugs from anywhere else.

Just last night a group of about 20 teenagers were drinking and jumping in the harbour at the bottom of my street. That was at 5pm and they noisily went home about 9pm.

Many years ago when I was a participant in the A.O.G church I rallied against the moral and spiritual assault on our nation, and yet to unleash the fag in me. I never fell for the rhetoric, however, I was engrossed and neutered by the fear that Fred vile Nile and his cohorts instilled into my immature mind. Formerly married, a father, a Christian school teacher, a politician in the Christian democrats too, and yet none knew I carried a heavy burden of being a "Christian" and gay. I did more harm to my ex-wife and son, my family, friends, and church by living a lie. I THANK GOD I grew the balls to put a stop to it all.
No amount of Fred's prayers, or mine for that matter, had any effect on the battle that raged in my soul. The liberation of myself and all I ever had contact with when I finally came out was more inspirational, more effective, and more accepting than I could have possibly dreamed. Yes, being gay is who I am, yet it doesn't define me. The church as a whole has yet-after all this time- to learn the truth of love, acceptance, and forgiveness. To Fred and his cohorts: "you shall know them by their fruit". What does your stand against evil as you label it actually yield? Who gave you the right to rally against a people who suffer rejection, fear, violence and hatred even before you bend your knee in prayer? Finally does God really care about who and how I share myself with anyway? Am I less likely to become Christ-like in character because I am same sex attracted? Does my life cause those very, VERY young kids to loiter in a park getting drunk, doing drugs, have "un-natural" sex? Last time I looked at a beat it was the meeting place of fathers, husbands, ministers, and those who society have rejected; very few of them are part of my persuasion! I'll finish with a true experience: My minister taught me to masturbate at 12, and fervently encouraged me to do it to myself when I grew up. Think about it!

I loved his witchcraft alluding line about Gillard having got her position through "craft and manipulation". His hysterical delivery and bizarre camera angles are also very good. I look forward to seeing more of this bold new comedic talent.

I accept their place in our community, it's only a shame they can't do the same. I've said it before and I'll say it again, religion has a lot to answer for. They are all "sects" and should receive now special treatment. It shits me that they don't pay taxes. Still, if people are silly enough to fall for the talk, then good luck to them!

SERIOUSLY people! it's my contention that while the venom being spat at Madden is probably justified, but what is more disconcerting is that Madden may very well be the mouth piece, no, may become the mouth piece of a wider naive, and massively weak minded part of our community.
I draw heavily on my past as a politician in New Zealand for the then known as Christian Heritage Party (became the Christian Democrats) where members of the party and the Christian constituents were largely ignorant of what discrimination as a whole is to the gay community let alone ANY OTHER. People WANT to believe in something, they want to follow somebody; they want nicely clipped media bites that in a mere few seconds will encapsulate their apparent thoughts and beliefs. THIS is why the media works the way it does.
Madden uses the same tactics in his video: the use of the war memorial in the background while he speaks of battle, he introduces the issue of abortions (what the hell has this to do with the mardi Gras –I don’t know). He tells us of the volume of drunken teenagers who are victims of sexual behaviour, drugs violence and debauchery none of which he substantiates with any evidence-not even a NSW Police report. The signpost behind him with words Liberation, Love, Dignity, that pander to a Christian audience, the name of a venue ‘Camp’ over his right shoulder in a shot while he speaks of the vile immoral behaviour of the 'gay' community. He has used every media trick in the book, evocative language and imagery that works well at roping in the feeble minded members of the Christian community.
The REAL problem I have with Madden is the rhetoric is the same as that spruiked in the 90’s when I campaigned for the Christian (Herritage) Democrats in New Zealand, the only difference is he is using the Mardi Gras and the gay community as a whole as the easiest and most visible target to focus the Christian community.
Dare I say this, and may well be lambasted for it; my 82 year old father says the rise of the fundamentalist right was only possible in Germany during the 1930’s because the political power brokers of the day were able to convince and focus a nation of desperate citizens on one object: the Jews. According to the leaders of the day, Jews were the cause of all their ills, Jews had to be eradicated. Is Mr Madden employing the same tactic? If so, people we have only ourselves to depend on, there will be no Mr Churchill standing up for us.
To Mr madden I say this: the GLBT community is NOT responsible for the deprivation that exists in Australia today. Perhaps the excesses of your generation and that of Mr Niles, have become the ‘norm’ of your children. Perhaps the message taught form the pulpits of every AOG, Baptist, CofE, Catholic, etc, in your time and, unfortunately mine, did not actually bear relevance to the message God actually wants to be delivered, and as a consequence the sins of the father have truly become the sins of the son. Perhaps for the past 50 years men of the church have spoken their own ‘soulish’-to be easily confused with spiritual- message and the deprivation that exists in Australia is ACTUALLY the fruit of YOUR labour.
In the end Mr Madden, all I want in my life is to be loved, accepted, and forgiven. I believe that when God looked about himself prior to creation and the earth was void, he actually was doing a little bit of self-evaluation. He created me, unlike any other being, to have a free will, to choose Him, so accept Him, to Love Him. I am sure God has the same thrill as we do, as human beings, when someone truly loves and accepts unconditionally; chooses to give themselves unconditionally. Perhaps if this was the message you gave in your YouTube video EVEN ‘The Gays’ might follow!

What crimes he states will happen, appear to be those he wishes will happen. Mardi gras is about living together, whoever and whatever you are yet this guy, in a subversive way, IS advocating violence!
And what really gets me pissed is his reference to those Australians that died in previous wars who stood up for the progressive and free spirit of Australia – NOT the retrograde, homophobic paranoia by a limited number of self-glorifying vocalists.

Forgiven....in generic terms datkinda, we all f**k up somewhere in life but more importantly we do it to people who matter. Parents, partners, brothers and sisters....it's nice to forgive and be forgiven for our failings. However, in all forms of religion mankind is inherently flawed-erm dare I say it I actually believe we are too. When I get on a rant like this (and I must as k your forgiveness for this) I have reduced human's spiritual needs to three basic things: Love acceptance and forgiveness. All the other shit that is indoctrinated is basically 'fleshing out' one or all of these things. ANYWAY enough from me...I can happily crawl back into my corner and enjoy reading the views of other SameSamers.

Basically he dug the hole bigger.......we talked afterwards and I talked to him about the way out of the nightmare. I asked him if he'd like to join me for dinner. He mentioned that he was heading off to an event with Peter Thatchell.......I have some ideas of the way forward with this.
