Looks like this is gonna be HUGE.

In what’s set to be the largest gathering of transgender, intersex and genderqueer people ever held in Australia, the country’s first Gender Diverse Rally will make its voice heard on the lawn at Parliament House on Wednesday 11 May.

People currently discriminated against on the grounds of their sex and/or gender variance, identity or expression will demand their equal rights at the unprecedented event.

“Intersex, Sex and/or Gender Diverse (ISGD) people all over the country have been campaigning for years for equal rights,” says the rally’s co-organiser Tracie O’Keefe, “but the government continues to drag its feet and stick its head in the sand like an ostrich.”

Issues affecting Aussie transfolk include being currently unable to get birth records or other legal documents changes to the correct gender when it has been incorrectly stated or they have changed their gender status. Intersex children are still being operated on to ‘normalise’ their genitalia – sanctioned in terms of enforcing ‘normality’, instead of being seen as child abuse.

A list of demands for legal changes will be handed to federal Members of Parliament at the rally – see the full list here.

Relatives, friends and supporters of all ISGD people are also invited to come along and support this first national campaign for the equal rights of all those currently discriminated against on the grounds of their sex and/or gender diversity or expression.

Buses trips are being planned to take people from Sydney to Canberra. To find out more and register your support, email: stillfierce@gmail.com.
