A cocktail party with Kylie

Excitement for Kylie’s latest tour has been at fever pitch (pun intended) around Sydney the last week, but when invites begun circulating late last week for a Warner Music hosted Cocktail Party in celebration of the Princess of Pop herself, to say we were thrown completely over the edge is an absolute understatement.

Upon arriving at the cocktail party at Wildfire by Circular Quay, Kylie was met on the red carpet by Joyce Maynge and her team of flash mobbers. You can check out a clip below.

Here’s Same Same’s photos from the red carpet at the glam event.

After making her way through the crowd, Kylie was met by an emotionally rousing speech from Tony Harlow, the head of Warner Music Australia, one in which Kylie herself, standing stage left, seemed to be a little chuffed by.

Kylie quickly got on stage, thanked the crowd, and then treated us all to an amazing five track acoustic set with her tour band. Same Same was lucky enough to be front and centre during the amazing acoustic performances of Nu-di-ty, In My Arms, I Should Be So Lucky, Better Than Today and All the Lovers.

After more crowd mingling, Kylie was quickly whisked away to a private room where we were lucky enough to get some alone time with the super star. What we said to her was probably ridiculous (what do you say to someone like Kylie?) but the woman was just so down to earth and adorable, it was near impossible to not be gobsmacked. If you were wondering why we looked like we were on the verge of having an aneurism in the twitter photo we sent around late last night, that’s because we were.

Blake and Beth at Warner, thank you for making the dreams of three crazy gay men come true. You are both superstars. But the biggest thank you must go to Kylie herself. Her acoustic set was a fantastic surprise to many (we didn’t even notice the stage until we were told about it), and was simply spellbinding, and meeting her I’m sure we must have appeared as incoherent bumbling fools, but we were still met with genuine affection and interest from the pop goddess. Hell, she even gave me a hug!

Here’s to the rest of Kylie week in Sydney. We can hardly contain our excitement.

Check out some highlights of last night below.

I saw some footage of Kylie's acoustic set on the Today Show this morning.
Magic. She is really is an inspiration. Not for just her music - Kylie's survived cancer, the nasty Fleet Street press in the early days of her career. Kylie certainly is no "Singing Budgie". I think Kylie's great.

Even I'm going to this concert tonight.

Honey Prawns is gonna be in the Splash zone. He has to line up and get a splash pack - that has a fucking poncho in it.

Is this gonna be a water sports event?

the thing that I like about Kylie is she appears gracious and very generous in spirit.

I respect that in a person.

there is a real fountain on the stage with water. Just saying.

There really was a real fountain on the stage. Right at the end.

Even I had fun at this show- but I did take some Serepax before it.

The finale would have been right up Mr Piss's alley.

She was thoroughly sweet and engaging the entire time.
I don't know if I'd buy her records or even call myself a fan- but she did sing most of the time and spent alot of time talking to the audience.

I got some photos I'll post later

Kylie is an industry survivor who has remained gracious and humble over a very long career. She deserves her success. See you on the floor tomorrow night in the "Goldilocks" (Gold Floor) zone: Not Too Wet (Splashzone) & Not Too Dry (Seated). It should be just right :)

It was amazing. I've been to Homecoming, X and now Les Folies, and can honestly say this is her best concert of the lot. The biggest problem with X was that it was at Acer Arena which is far too big. The Entertainment Centre is a more intimate venue without being too small for the pretty lavish stage production.
