We all know Kylie loves her gays but last night at her Perth concert the pop princess showed just how much!
Towards the end of her set at the Burswood Dome, she took a break to talk to the audience and asked “is anyone celebrating something special tonight?” A man wearing a flamboyant hat and lifeguard uniform replied, “My partner and I are celebrating our 9 year anniversary.”
At this stage I still hadn’t realised they were a gay couple until Kylie replied “you can be my lifeguard tonight” and invited the man up on stage.
He explained to the crowd, “I’m from Broome and my partner is from Kalgoorlie and tonight we’re celebrating out 9 year anniversary”. Kylie was clearly delighted and cheered him on asking “is there anything you would like to say to your partner?”
The man’s partner eventually came up on stage and stood facing his boyfriend and Kylie. The man from Broome then bent down on one knee and popped the question: “Will you marry me” right in front of Kylie and the entire Perth audience.
Of course he replied “Yes” with Kylie screaming in excitement “where are their mums!”
The entire crowd cheered with massive applause in support of the proposal with the happy couple smiling on stage.
After the couple had settled down back in to the audience, Kylie was still delighted, saying “You expect me to go back in to the show straight after that!” Still smiling, she took a moment to gather herself before continuing on with the concert.
Watch:
I myself thought this was a fantastic event in the evening and proved that even people in one of Australia’s more conservative cities were behind gay marriage. I spoke to several people after the event, curious to hear their thoughts. Everyone I asked that evening had no opposition to gay marriage and the majority I spoke with thought it was long overdue.
After the show, concert-goers partied at Eve Nightclub – here’s our pics.
Last night in Perth was Kylie’s last concert in the Aussie leg of her Aphrodite tour.
