Julia Gillard ignores the people she is placed to govern over and now it looks like she’ll possibly even ignore the wishes of her own Labor party.
The Prime Minister has yet again hardened her opposition to marriage equality, suggesting that she may even defy a reversal of the ALP’s position if it votes for a change in the Marriage Act at the party’s National Conference in December.
Sydney’s Star Observer reports that in an interview on Sky News this afternoon, the PM stated she’d defer debate on the issue until the National Conference, but also added that the Conference doesn’t necessarily set government positions.
“What the National Conference does is it sets the platform, the aspirations for our political party. But always Labor Caucus in government makes decisions on government policy,” she told interviewer David Speers.
When challenged as to whether she’d ignore the National Conference if it decided in favour of gay marriage, she answered: “I’ve made my personal views clear and they’ll continue to be my views.
“I’m not as Prime Minister going to sit here and dictate who can come to National Conference and say what. That wouldn’t be in accord with my general view that we’re a party of government and a party of ideas and it’s a good thing that passionate Labor people come and debate ideas.”
Yes Julia, it is good that that passionate people can come and debate ideas, but as the leader of the Labor Party, are you even willing to listen to the views of not just your party, but also of the people?
There is an old saying, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all,” so instead I choose to post this video…
Julia, let me remind you, it wasn’t too hard for you to sneak up and replace Kevin Rudd, it won’t be that hard for someone to replace you!
