Anyone who has been watching Underbelly: Razor, would recognise Guy Edmonds (pictured). He’s currently playing Greg “the gunman” Gaffney on the hit show, and is now set to not only produce but take the leading role in a new movie about a drag queen vigilante – The Silver Stiletto!

“The two characters can’t be further from each other, although they both have a degree of blood lust,” laughs Edmonds.

“I don’t think being versatile as an actor is necessarily what I aim to be, it’s just that I am interested in good parts, learning new skills, and pushing the skills I have in new directions.”

Edmonds is swiftly gaining a reputation for his ability to give intense and physical performances, and The Silver Stiletto promises to do just that. When director Luke Mayze sent him the script for the short film, he knew instantly he had to do it. “It was just such a powerful idea, well written, and the characters so intriguing.”

Taking on the role of a cross-dressing anti-hero definitely came with unique challenges. Apart from elaborate costumes, make-up and wigs, the script also called for a musical fight scene.

“There were elaborate fights scenes required in Underbelly and the skills I honed in that role have been useful for The Silver Stiletto, but there are some things it couldn’t prepare me for,” said Edmonds.

In order to prepare for the role, Edmonds had to endure 13 weeks of fight training, completing the last six weeks in his stilettos: “The heels wreak havoc with your balance and there’s a greater chance of injury, for me and I guess for the other actors.”

Along with acting, a part of his producer role is to raise the production budget so Edmonds and the other producers will be holding a fundraising screening of the previous works of director Luke Mayze at 4pm, Saturday 3rd September at Tribal Cinemas George Street, Brisbane

One of the films that will be shown will be ’It’s a Treat’, Edmonds’ last producing (and acting) project, which has been accepted in the NYC Film Festival, Burbank International Film Festival, and also the Brisbane International Film Festival.

Tickets cost $25, which includes the screenings with drinks to follow.   Tickets can be purchased at the door or online at www.silverstilettomovie.com.
