UPDATE: Click here for all the exciting Mardi Gras revelations!
Mardi Gras is one of Australia’s most loved events – and tomorrow, it’ll unveil its new image in several of Sydney’s most iconic locations.
“On 17th November we will be launching our new identity,” says the New Mardi Gras crew. “We’re introducing a new symbol that recognises where we have come from, while looking forward to the future. We hope that it inspires the world.”
34 years have passed since the first Mardi Gras Parade and times have changed a bit since then, the festival organisers explain. “What was once a protest that saw police batons and prosecution has evolved into a celebration of difference and a night of liberated fun.”
The Mardi Gras crew will be scooting around Sydney doing loads of photo ops tomorrow (Thursday) in Bondi, the Botanic Gardens and Paddington Town Hall.
You’re invited to take a look! Between 11am and midday you can be part of a giant recreation of the new symbol on the grass of the Botanic Gardens.
It will take place in the garden close to the shore in Farm Cove. That’s the area between the Opera House and Mrs Macquarie’s Chair – where Harbour Party takes place.
Come from the office in your suit, or dress up bright and colourful – either is perfectly OK. You’ll be asked to get into place so that we can get a great photo of the symbol. See you there – or if you require further details, email: volunteers@mardigras.org.au.
