Here's Melbourne's mostinfluential!

We’re very proud of all three of Melbourne’s LGBT entries into its annual 100 Most Influential People list.

Shown above, they are: same-sex marriage activist Ali Hogg (left), Bob Katter’s campaigning gay half-brother Carl Katter (centre) and transgender Victoria spokesperson Sally Goldner (right).

Ali Hogg, who won our very own Same Same 25 Absolut People’s Choice Award this year, says she’s thrilled and a little overwhelmed to have joined the list, telling Same Same she was particularly happy to be listed with Katter and Goldner, who she respects hugely.

The marriage equality campaigner was at Sydney’s massive march at the weekend where she took to the stage as thousands cheered her. “It was an incredible rally,” she says. “It puts us in good stead to continue the fight.”

His notoriously anti-gay half-brother’s statements against gay marriage led Carl Katter to publicly out himself back in August. He told us at the time: “You know, I may never meet the love of my life and may never get married, but if I have to live in a country where we do not have full equality for all, I need to change that.”

And Sally Goldner is a well-known figure supporting transgender people in Melbourne through her work with TransGender Victoria. She was recently the subject of Sally’s Story, a documentary which received acclaim at both the Melbourne Queer Film Festival and the St Kilda Short Film Festival.

The full list of Melbourne’s 100 more influential people will be published in the Melbourne Magazine, free with The Age newspaper this weekend.

Same Same’s own list of the 25 most influential LGBTI people across Australia will return in 2012.
