For this year’s Sydney Mardi Gras Parade on March 3, Oxford Street hub Taylor Square is set to become “a cool oasis where the sunshine reigns supreme,” it has just been revealed.

A brand new viewing area will be themed as a fresh, funky and wonderfully kitsch holiday caravan park known as Club Tropicana, say the Mardi Gras crew.

“Owned and operated by former 1950s Hollywood starlet Miss Fran Gipani, Club Tropicana will be spilling over with palm trees and festive music, serving up a gorgeous tropical holiday vibe right here at our very own Taylor Square.”

For the first time ever, there will be a raised viewing platform on Taylor Square forecourt to take advantage of Parade route’s most desired vantage point, ensuring sweeping views of all the action.

“The easy access to bars and food purchase as well as toilet facilities help ensure you have everything you need and won’t have to leave the unique experience of Club Tropicana,” say the crew. “This super-sized take on the traditional Parade viewing area is a tropical party oasis and the coolest way to take in all the spectacle, glitz and glamour of Sydney Mardi Gras Parade 2012.”

Tickets, which start at $89 for Mardi Gras members, will go on sale tomorrow via the official Sydney Mardi Gras website.

The charity fundraising Glamstand will also return as usual, offering fine foods, bars and seating areas in the leafy Centennial Parklands on the corner of Moore Park Road and Anzac Parade. This year the Glamstand will be hosted by singer and actor Tim Campbell, drag diva Vanessa Wagner and DJ Kate Monroe. Find out more here.

Hit it, George!
