Popular Oxford Street venue Nevermind has been sold – and its new owner is a familiar and respected face on Sydney’s gay party scene.

The upstairs dancefloor has been closed for the past few weekends as owner Steve Lowe negotiated the sale.

Same Same can now reveal Daywash party promoter and DJ Johan Khoury (pictured below) is taking over Nevermind, beginning this weekend.

Nevermind was turned into a gay venue three years ago by promoters Tim Duggan and Shane Jenek who threw Disgraceland and Saturday Fucking Night parties and attracted hordes of artists like Lady Gaga, the Pussycat Dolls, George Michael, Amanda Lepore and more.

“On behalf of Shane, Steve and all of the Nevermind family we want to thank every single person who had the times of the lives there. Johan is a great event promoter and we know that he’s going to have as much fun there as we did.”

He plans to hold weekly party nights there, tying in with a busy schedule of big events during Mardi Gras and beyond.

“The anticipation is over as Nevermind opens its doors once again from this Friday night 3 February with familiar faces and a few fresh changes,” teases Khoury.

The poster to promote the club’s new crew is shown below.

And here’s how we know Johan best – as the guy who brings us Daywash!
