Today, Friday March 2, Australians will be encouraged to say ‘I Do’ in support of Australian Marriage Equality’s ‘I Do’ Day.

Australians are encouraged to raise awareness in three main ways on the day: updating your Facebook, Twitter or other social media profiles to show ‘I Do’, buying an ‘I do’ badge, and signing the marriage equality petition at ido.org.au. See the petition here.

Badges will be for sale by volunteer sellers on the streets of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth with all proceeds donated to Australian Marriage Equality to continue their work campaigning for the rights of all Australians to have the choice to get married.

With current Herald/Nielsen studies showing that 62% of Australians believe in marriage equality, ‘I Do’ Day is designed “for all Australians to speak out together and say ‘I Do’ support equal marriage rights.”

Join the Facebook page here to show your support and receive event updates.

Australian Marriage Equality are also seeking volunteers to contribute in any way to the event. Email idoday2012@gmail.com to be part of the ‘I Do’ Day team and to make a difference to this special cause.

Meanwhile, it seems Italians want to have the right to say ‘I do’ too, with activist groups Arcigay and AGEDO releasing a first-of-its-kind marriage equality video for Italy last week.

Filmed over four months, I’ll Marry You, depicts the story of “a young gay couple who gets married and another lesbian couple who gets engaged at their wedding.”
