WATCH: Magda's moment atMardigrasland

In tears and as the Mardigrasland party crowd chanted “Magda, Magda, Magda!” newly-out Aussie actress Magda Szubanski wished us all a Happy Mardi Gras 2012.

“Thank you so much,” she began, proudly taking to the RHI stage wearing a t-shirt featuring her now-famous quote: ‘If there was a tablet that cured gayness… I wouldn’t take it’.

“This has been the most emotional, overwhelming few weeks for me. I can’t tell you how much it means to me to finally be able to be here with all of you beautiful people – and be myself!

“I thought for a long time about where to come out, and how to do it in the most effective way – that would benefit us in the best possible way,” she added, as someone in the crowd cheered: “We love you, honey!”

“The truth is, my coming out was a very public event. But all of us have to come out, all the time. And it is not easy. I just want to say how much love and admiration I have for all of you, for the courage that you have. And we are making the world a better place.”

See Magda’s moment on this video below, after the 5-minute mark.

Selling out 15,300 tickets, Mardigrasland at the Entertainment Quarter in Moore Park featured several other amazing guests on its various stages, attracting an incredible mix of beautiful punters from all walks of LGBT life – and their mates.

In her first performance at a Mardi Gras Party since 1998, Kylie Minogue led a troupe of dancers through a sensational 20-minute show that left the insatiable crowd cheering for more. Her performance at the packed Royal Hall of Industries in the sold-out party was also beamed live to screens around the Mardiglasland precinct.

This video is a little blurry, but captured all the songs…

Elsewhere, Aussie locals Sneaky Sound System put on a sexy show at the Hordern, with a golden Connie and some gorgeous back-up dancers doing Sneaky hits including Pictures and Somebody in Kansas City Loves Me along with a cover of The Eurythmics’ anthem Sweet Dreams. It rocked! Check it out:

Agree that Magda was an absolute highlight. She had tears streaming down her face from almost the moment she appeared on stage in the RHI. And the audience support for her was thunderous.

my favourite moment was, without doubt my 5am show in the RHI. I was unable to come to the party any earlier than 345am, so missed Kylie, RuPaul and Sneaky Sound System, but was fortunate enough to see Chicane who were amazing and to hear Wayne G, and Lee Dagger. seeing Peter and Magda's speeches on here has been absolutely wonderful, thanks Same Same

Magda's sheer tenacity, courage and vulnerability in the face of her coming out has no doubt inspired thousands of Australians to do the same.
Magda should be Australian of the Year for 2013.
