Sydney Convicts rugby player Kevin Perry impressed the judges on Masterchef last night with his cider chicken dish ensuring he was first through to the Top 24.

The handsome Canadian (pictured) says he was raised in a family of keen cooks and has collected over 80 cookbooks.

‘Big Kev’ plays in Sydney’s all-inclusive rugby team along with his partner Erik, who’s also Canadian. The couple met while backpacking around Australia.

“I consider myself passionate and enthusiastic, nothing is done half-way, I always throw my heart and soul into work and relationships,” says the laid-back 34-year-old, who says his cheescakes are the dish he’s most famous for.

“I find it rewarding to be able to cook for others and make them feel special by spending some time in the kitchen and putting together a thoughtful meal for them.”

He says his dream is to improve the types and quality of food sold at sports stadiums in Australia.

Here’s the dish he prepared last night on Masterchef, ensuring he was picked for the Top 24. Cider can chicken, Papa Sita’s corn cob, potato salad and garlic aioli:

Masterchef has just started back for 2012, each weeknight at 7pm on Channel Ten. Find out more on its official website here.
