Tradies socket to FamilyVoice

A strange press release from the FamilyVoice campaign claims that the ACT’s new same-sex marriage law might confuse tradies.

“As any tradie can tell you, marriage has always been a joining of two opposites. You cannot properly unite two of the same,” says Ros Phillips, FamilyVoice’s ‘Research Officer’.

“By definition, marriage is a complementary, male-female union,” the statement continued. “Only that union has the potential to create and raise children with both male and female role models.

“Let’s not confuse apprentice electricians, plumbers and carpenters in the ACT – lest the lights go out, the drains leak and the chairs collapse in the Legislative Assembly!”

The press release got people talking after News.com.au posted a story about it, along with this graphic from FamilyVoice:

Melbourne electrician Jerome Kilby is among those who’s keen to “show how wrong Ms Phillips is.”

“We all have parts that convert male to female or female to male,” he explains. “This is not uncommon in any trade. And in the car industry they have both male and female in the one plug.”

Kilby sent us this helpful image which he hopes will prove his point:

Responding to widespread ridicule and criticism of her FamilyVoice statement, Phillips said she was “amazed that some journalists have taken our light-hearted comments so seriously – it seems that many have never done woodwork at school!”

“But we hope they have now updated their knowledge of mortice joints and the like, and are ready to embrace the truth universally recognised until very recently – that in general kids do best with their natural married mum and a dad.”

Our message to Ros Phillips: We’re not surprised your press release prompted a backlash. For us, blatant inequality is no laughing matter, and trying to ‘lightheartedly’ promote the claim that our relationships and families are any ‘lesser than’ just proves yet again that you and your organisation are on the wrong side of history.

Yes and up until recently IT admins called Hard Drives modes by a Master/slave system. What is your point?

Also allot of those use the positive/negative terminology system

Its all getting rather interesting as to what is a male hole and to what is a female hole?

Is a male hole feel better than a female hole or is a female hole a better fit?

It is definitely a large issue and the sooner Tony Abott addresses this the sooner I will feel more secure as a citizen of Australia, please Tony, give us clarity!!!

This is a great article!

You have to admire 'tradies' since they provide an invaluable service to our society and there are many GLBTIQ trades people out there!

This is the dumbest thing I have ever seen!

Fact #1-Not ALL gays have anal sex. Just because some do, doesn't mean they all do it, including me.

Fact#2- There is such thing as a gay tradie AKA ME! I work as a sparky and normally male-female connections are barely used lol. Thats just kiddy talk for apprentice sparkies.

Fact#3- 2 Postive/Negative batteries can still produce energy. #doyouevensciencebro? -_-
