“Hey hey, ho ho, homophobia’s got to go!” chanted a loud and proud collection of colourful protesters last night in front of a meeting of the Australian Christian Lobby.

Organised by the local branch of marriage equality activism group Equal Love, the quickly-organised protest rallied outside the CrossCulture Church of Christ in Swanson Street.
Inside, just over two dozen members of the stringently anti-equality ACL were participating in a global webcast against same-sex marriage.
“Well done Melbourne Equality fighters,” praised Equal Love organiser Ali Hogg. “Two hundred strong outnumber the twenty inside preaching bigotry.”
“Don’t be confused these people are most certainly NOT Christian,” she adds. “They hide behind the ‘C’ word so that they can preach their homophobic rants and bigoted views.”

The protest ended with three couples having a pash on the steps of the Church, says Hogg. “The forum holders were so put off by that they shut the big double doors so they wouldn’t be witness to it. SHAME ACL! Shutting the door on love!”

The Australian Christian Lobby has this week released a surprisingly slick new ad promoting traditional marriage.
Whereas just a year ago they were sure playing down same-sex marriage as a “non issue” which should be ignored in favour of more important issues, now they are putting a lot of resources behind their campaign to keep our marriage laws as they are.
