Sad news for local Madge fans. The promoters of the Australian leg of Madonna’s MDNA tour have now confirmed she won’t be joining us for what would’ve been her first appearance Down Under in 20 years.

News.com.au now reports that Madonna’s manager Guy Oseary broke the news to the local concert tour’s promoter Live Nation overnight. Stadiums had already been booked in Sydney and Melbourne for shows early in 2013.

Madonna was last seen here with her Girlie Show in 1993.

Her latest concert tour, which is currently traveling around Europe, is raking in the cash, taking in $50 million in the first three weeks, and is on track to become one of the biggest-earning music tours ever.

The tour coincides with the release of Madonna’s 12th studio album MDNA, and the latest video from the disc, Turn Up The Radio, was released this week – See it here, and hear her MDNA album below.

There is just two golden rules that entertainers should always follow.

1. Never announce your retirement from show business...
2. Never announce your tour or shows until you are 100% committed to doing them...

I don't think we can ever expect compliance with your first golden rule Brad since such announcements are typically used as marketing ploys and are typically successful sucking in the punters who think that this might be their last chance to see the act (case in point Cher's last tour of Australia which was meant to signal her retirement but as we all know now she went on to become an installation in Vegas).

And John Farnham is not the only Aussie who has been successful in milking the farewell concert formula. Aussies have particular form in this area. Think of 'The Seekers' and Dame Nellie Melba who basically invented the genre giving rise to the term 'Doing a Melba'.

Your second golden rule is usually adhered to because it also makes good business sense and it is a little difficult to understand why Madonna sees it as smart to do otherwise. While there is small possibility that the current show will be revived in a second leg that will include Australia (as someone has pointed out the 'Sticky & Sweet' tour was broken into 2 stagings, but even that didn't include Oz), it occurs to me that her marketing people might think that it is the initial publicity of a truly global tour that helps to ignite album sales.

Whatever the case, perhaps Madge should have had the foresight to promote her 1993 'Girlie Show' in Oz as her farewell performance down-under ;)

Its clear you don't know what your talking about. For some of you who think M is not relevant, maybe these articles can clear things up for you. People are entitled to opinons, however know your facts first. M is an easy target for haters, but the facts tell a very different story, weather you like M or not, she should be respected for what she has achieved, how hard she has worked & the role model she has been for so many people, including what she has done for the gay community

Post all the links you like, I couldn't care less. I still think her heyday is well and truly over in the music world. You're entitled to your opinion. She's about as relevant today to the music scene as Video Cassette Recorders are to Home entertainment systems.

With all due respect Yogi, the mere fact that your avatar is of Madonna, would suggest that you are a Madonna fanatic. Fanatic tend to only see one side of the story.

I am a member of the Prince fan club myself, and it always makes me laugh when the fanatics refuse to believe that even Prince has struggled for hits in recent years. They often use the line "but his last album was a number 1 hit." The reality is.....his last album sold a dismal 150,000 copies worldwide, and didn't even enter the Top 100 on the charts.

Similarly with Madonna, here last two albums have been commercial failures, especially MDNA, so one would have to agree at the very least, her career is in a significant lull right now.

Just because of my avatar, does not make me a fanatic, & its not a comment you can fairly make without knowing me. Yes I am a fan, however, I am very objective about M & a lot of things, it's not healthy to only few things one way (which is what a lot of you are doing) what I am about is knowing the facts, some people like to bag people out, that's fine if it makes you feel better about your self, however, know what you are talking about, & know your facts. I dont ever make claims that I have not researched, which is what you are all doing.

The Hard candy album sold 4,000,000 copies, MDNA, is getting close to the same amount,(full end of year sales are not in yet) both albums went No. 1 in 20 something countries, hardly a failure by any means, yes she is not selling the same amount of albums she did in the 80's, name an artist that is still around who is? The MDNA album got quiet good reviews across the board.

Madonna has sold over 300 million albums, has the two biggest selling tours by a female artist in history, both done in the last 5 years, one this year. How can any of this be considered a failure is beyond me, no matter what artist it is. There is no other artist out there selling this many albums that have been around for 30 years or more. Selling albums has changed a great deal in the last few years, it's a lot harder, all the money is in the tours, M is very smart, she is putting more time & effort into marketing the tours then the albums, hence why she did no promo tour with this album.

Credit should be given were credit is due, instead of always trying to cut people down. To say that someone like Madonna is not relevant or never has been is just pure ignorance & untrue. It's the same as saying prince was never relavent, of course he was, & he still is, he is an incredibly talented man, who has done some fantastic music, who is anyone to say that someone is relavent or not, the whole phrase is so disrespectful & mean spirited.
