Christian Lobby plans cozynight with Gillard

The Australian Christian Lobby has scored itself a very influential keynote speaker for its national conference – the Christians’ Atheist old mate, Prime Minister Julia Gillard!

The poster and details have just been revealed – with Gillard set to join ACL leader Jim Wallace on stage in Canberra in October. Tickets to the dinner are now on sale for $100 each.

Since the ACL has been particularly vocal against marriage equality, same-sex marriage activists are very concerned that the Prime Minister will address what they say is “an increasingly extremist, anti-gay group.”

“Between January and June this year the ACL made over 120 statements condemning equality for gay Australians and said virtually nothing about poverty or homelessness, with some of its statements linking gay equality with the stolen generation, Nazis and paedophiles,” says Australian Marriage Equality campaigner Alex Greenwich.

“The ACL is an unrepresentative, anti-gay group which it is completely inappropriate for the leader of our nation to endorse in this way.”

Though you’ll never see Gillard at any of the many LGBT events and fundraisers which happen around Australia through the year, she appears to be still pandering to the group she made an election promise to in 2010 – making clear to Wallace she wouldn’t support changes to the Marriage Act..

Greenwich confirms that the Prime Minister has never spoken at a gay and lesbian community event, including the Rainbow Labor caucus within the Labor Party itself.

“Gay and lesbian Australians and our families want a Prime Minister who shows us equal respect and does not legitimise hate, and at the moment Julia Gillard is not that Prime Minister.”

Meanwhile, other Christians are distancing themselves from the ACL’s troubling messages in recent months.

“Many Australian Christians are concerned about the ACL’s statements because they contradict the central Christian message of love and compassion,” says Baptist Minister Rev Carolyn Francis.

“The ACL’s predominate focus on issues relating to sexuality is disproportionate with the priorities of scripture and Christianity.”

It’s easy to tell Julia what you think about her support of the Australian Christian Lobby. She can be emailed using this form here.

Only to be expected from the PM. Oh , what a complicated web she weaves for herself. The other lot are no better. Openly gay candidates are needed for the coming election . Let's make a noise at least.

What do you expect - each sitting day of federal parliament is opened by the house of reps reciting the lords prayer. Religion has its foot in every door of power

Where did I say he wasn't trying to be funny (I don't find him funny by the way, I find him embarrassing - his sense of humour is like the Farrelly Brothers minus the funny parts minus 5 decades)?

(Learn to read my posts properly).

The point is he then goes onto say that marriage is about acquiescing rights, so he basically confuses, or deliberately collapses, the broader meta-agenda of the LGBTI community for equal rights with the smaller issue of marriage equality.

basically says, or actually says? So its ok to imply the motives of barnaby joyce, but not ok to imply the motives of a rugby player looking to build his profile?

I'm more a George Carlin, Bill Hicks, Sarah Silverman, Will Ferrell, Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Ricky Gervais, Seth MacFarlane type fan. That's how I roll. How about you? Barnaby Joyce, Alan Jones, Mark Steyn, they your humor heroes?

Replace basically with either and knock yourself out.

Don't believe Pocock, believe Barnaby, I don't care. It's your right. I don't really want to argue the Pocock thing with you anymore.

The ACL defends itself.

I like the bit where they acknowledge several recent Same Same stories:

"Today's attack on ACL by gay activists is typical of the relentless demonisation of anyone from Gloria Jean's to the Salvation Army and Chick-fil-A in the United States who support or are perceived to support marriage remaining between a man and a woman."

They are such demons. xx

How bloody pathetic is this, a Prime Minister supporting an anti gay outfit of bigotted misfits. Look at the appalling influences happening in Queensland with their evil beliefs !!
