Horrible hatemongers rally inCanberra

Today’s National Marriage Day Rally on the lawn at Parliament House involved a strange gathering of oldies, politicians, pastors and political wannabies – and some of the worst homophobia imaginable.

Aboriginal leader Pastor Peter Walker and shockingly anti-gay busybody Peter Madden were there to speak to the crowd of around 150 people.

It was the second annual Marriage Day, and just like at the first one last year, fear stalked the event.

Walker’s speech began with familiar rhetoric. The AAP reports he told the crowd that marriage helps strengthen the bond between men and women with the purpose of bearing children.

But turning his attention to gay people, he tumbled blindly into extreme bigotry: “In the absence of this biological principle, sex becomes very instrumental, the satisfaction of pleasure and, I’ll say it straight out, lust.

“I’m convinced that homosexuals reproduce themselves by molesting children.”

Lined up to speak at the event was Labor’s Mark Furner, Barnaby Joyce from the Nationals, and Eric Abetz from the Liberals. Wow, who said the major political parties can’t agree on anything anymore?

Then it was time for a sing-song. To the tune of Waltzing Matilda, the crackpot crew chanted:

“Stand up for marriage, stand up for marriage,
One man and women for life exclusively,
Do not redefine this important institution,
Please vote NO! on marriage bills.”

It all has to be seen – and heard – to be believed. Luckily, video has already emerged.

Resembling something out of the early 1970s, take a look at today’s National Marriage Day Rally below.

What did you think? It’s clear our marriage equality activists are a million miles ahead of this spiteful old bunch.

This is a horrible nightmare. Many of the attendees wore fabrics thought to be extinct for decades.

From the look of the first photo, they all look to be in their late 70s/early 80s age-wise.

...Well, at least this batch of extreme hatred and bigotry is on the way out, if you catch my drift.

Meh there's always bound to be two sides to a debate. I'd just say fuck em, they're all old, they'll die within a generation and hopefully they're backward ways of thinking will go with them.

It's okay, soon their generation will either die out or all be put in retirement homes and the world will become a much brighter place.

Such a disgusting display, I have better things to do then to listen to a group of attention seeking religious wackos and their hate mongering that belong's in the dark ages, they are a waste of space and are not even worth the attention.

That video is hilarious.

The sight of 200 geriatric bigots massacring the unofficial national anthem can't hurt the marriage equality cause.

Yes, poor souls!

Not only should they be spending their "Christian" dollars on a new "make-over", but as McBender pointed out, singing lessons wouldn't go astray either!!...............

The scary thing is that although a lot of these "Family First god-botherers" seem to be between the years of "middle-age to death", they have obviously passed on their "unnatural beliefs" to a younger generation (as seen in their video). Sadly this Freak thinks that this kind of bigotry won't die with the older generation. :(

(Mental Note To Self: Good thing you're not a "Family First god-botherer", Freaky! I wouldn't like to be up on that stage in the video and try "crowd surfing" :p )

Fortunately this kind of hideous display is one of our best weapons in the fight for equality. Decent people all over Australia are as repulsed by this kind of behaviour as we are and see it for what it really is - bigotry blinded by ignorance and embedded in the cultural rigidity of a former generation. Let the family first people do what they want - their specious arguments and ridiculous antics will be ridiculed by the majority of decent Australians who believe in fairness. Their empty arguments and false premises just point up our just our cause and highlight the importance of equality. In reality, their are doing us a huge favour by exposing their own outdated, outmoded and outmaneuvered prejudices.

"One man and woman exclusively for life"
So, why aren't they as vocal about divorces?
Or the infertile couples or those who chose to adopt... but I know pointing out the fallacies of their arguments will fall on deaf ears. I'm not saying they should 'go after them' but if this is what they are worried about, it's not "just the gays" that have marriages that are outside what they deem acceptable.

As a Christian it offends me that they use my religion to bring about such hatred towards fellow Aussies. :( I really do not understand why their hatred is so great for our LGBTI Australians. I'm sorry for the misuse of bible to justify these actions. Though the reproducing via molestation doesn't make any sense - especially from a 'biological' perspective...

How sad and pathetic these people are. I suppose we should be grateful there are only 200 of them and the whole thing was laughable. They made some awful allegations about the GLBT community, but how on earth could any intelligent, rational person take them seriously. I think if anything they promote our community as the more sensible one. And let's face it, if it's going to come to a performance based rally, our community will win hands down. Ours would be choreographed with magnificent costumes and a choir made up of the many prominent Australian artists that support our cause.

As sick and sad as what has been presented here, the people we are fighting for equality deserve the right to stage their own rallies.

Whilst I do not agree at all, it is only fair that the other side can voice their views - the same way we do.

I think the trick is to ignore this rubbish. Who is honestly surprised that the church has come out and said they don’t support same sex mirage? Really, isn’t it expected? Who is really surprised that some moron made a connection to paedophilia and homosexuality? Why do we even take this shit seriously? It’s not like the catholic church has much credibility left when it comes to matter of paedophilia – so their views are worth fuck all.

Whilst we need to fight for the rights that our truly ours, we need to let others do the same.

Crap like what has been presented above does not warrant the energy or time to care - so let us not.
After all, isn’t the group above doing what we do when we march proudly? I'm sure to them our actions are viewed quite similarly.

I think the key to success is not changing one's views either way. Let the bigots be bigots, let the church be the church, but let’s find a way for us all to function together.

The same way we're not going to stop what we're doing, because we believe in it, neither are they - so let us stop wasting time with this shit and move forward as a Proud, strong community.

And at the end of the way, we're about love, they're about hate - I think we all know who will ultimately win this one.

The face of hatred rears its' ugly head when dislike of the unlike and ignorance overshadows logic.

The best way to deal with words of hate is with humour. It's quite disarming.

People who hate crave a reaction and thrive from fear.

yeah right. What about all those mothers/fathers who murder their children when going through a messy divorce ? like straights have got

As others have said , give it another generationt and they and their bigotry will be dead and buried.

Peter Walker to me looks like an almost full- blooded aboriginal man. Now can you imagine if someone in the media applied all the hateful, unfounded stereotypes concerning aboriginal people to him, in a public areana, what the reaction would be?! It would be world war three! Peter Walker, as an aborignal man, could therefore be; an alcoholic, a metho/glue/turps/paint etc. sniffer, a drug addict, intellectually challenged, primitive, child/wife abuser, uneducated, unemployed, lazy, etc etc. Not very fair is it?

Ya know when I started reading this particular post I thought - it triggers something!!!!!!!!!! Something I remember reading about when I was in High School. Then it dawned on me!!!!!!!!!!!!!! . . . the Jews initial reaction to the Nazis when they came to power in 1933. And we all know what happened to them!!!!!!!!!!!! Niemzy, Christians like THESE have a lot of "pull" - they make sure they do by either canvassing like-minded bigotted politicians or making substantial "contributions" to parties who'll push their rather fucked agenda. To say "Let them believe wot they want to believe cos they're basically all fuckwits" is OK to a point. Underestimating the enemy who would take away any civil rights ya have-at the drop of a hat (& these bastards would!!!!!!!) is sheer lunacy. The only way to beat fundalmentalist Christian terrorists like these is to stand up to them. Fight for what is our entitlements not "priviledges", like these cunts would like the rest of society to believe. Burying ya head in the sand or thinking they're a joke & I'm not going to worry about them didn't work for the Jews in Nazi Germany and it wont work for he LGBTIQ community in Ausralia.
