Our local version of Big Brother and the celebrity version in the UK both added sassy gay guys within hours of each other yesterday.

Rocking suspenders and with a broad grin, 32-year-old Benjamin from Victoria first appeared on last night’s edition of the show, bounding in as the last of the 14 core contestants and initially greeting his fellow male housemates with a camp little dance.

Seeing his outfit and loving his goofy moves, the girls instantly recognised a homo. “He’s gay!” they all exclaimed in unison.

Ben didn’t get off to the best start however – his initial nervous attempt at humour had him labeling one housemate a “bogan”, for which he later apologised.

Introduced as a gossipy character out to uncover the secrets on the show, here’s what Benjamin told the Big Bro team:

Saying he has a boyfriend and that he’s “found love” with him, on his first night in the house Benjamin told his coming out story, informing the other housemates that he has “always been gay” but was a late bloomer, feeling that he didn’t properly go through puberty until he was 18.

Naturally the hot topic of same-sex marriage has already come up in conversation in the house. Benjamin says his opinion on the issue has progressed lately, but he’s not really too fussed about the equality push. “There are more important issues,” he told the guys…

Meanwhile in the UK, the celebrity version of Big Brother has just begun, immediately after their regular season ended this week. And among the housemates, which mostly include local British reality TV stars we haven’t seen here, is outrageous ‘mincing machine’ comedian Julian Clary!

The Aussie version of Big Brother continues each weeknight at 7pm on Nine.
