Leading into the Big Gay Weekend, the Sydney Mardi Gras crew are set for a big Scissor Sisters-inspired Kiki event, Same Same can reveal.
“This Kiki will be marvelous, and you never know who you’ll end up rubbing shoulders with on the dancefloor!” teases the Mardi Gras team.
To celebrate the final stop on the Scissor Sisters’ Australian tour at Sydney Opera House on 27 September, the doors of Oxford Art Factory will be locked tight (after letting you in) and the special one-off official after-party will feature Scissor Sisters Tour DJ Sammy Jo plus local disc-spinners Sveta and Dan Murphy – plus the party’s very special guests The Scissor Sisters themselves!
Expect random acts of fabulousness, kiki contests and instant drag interventions, we’re promised. “And remember, a little bit of glitter goes a long way, but a LOT of glitter goes a lot further,” says the party crew.
“Klub Kiki is an exclusive, intimate, never-to-be-repeated happening that you’re not going to want to miss – get on down to Oxford Art Factory for a night of fierce Kiki action,” set for 10pm until late on Thursday 27 September.
“Are you a drag queen gone wrong, a hot mess in heels? Are you fabulous because you say so? Do YOU feel like dancing? Frock up or disco down, strap on those heels, and get ready to throw some shapes as we embark on a night of downtown dirty glamour, New York meets Sydney style.”
It’ll be a fundraiser for the Sydney Mardi Gras Parade Community Grants Scheme, with tickets $29 + booking fee going on sale this Monday 17 September from the Big Gay Weekend website.
And that’s just the start – find out more about the Big Gay Weekend here.
In case you need a refresher course on how exactly to Kiki, lock the doors, lower the blinds, fire up the smoke machine, and put on your heels, ‘cos I know exactly what we need…
