Those cheeky Chaser boys on their new The Hamster Wheel show didn’t have to try very hard to make opponents of marriage equality look dumb.
People who seek to block same-sex couples from marrying had a cozy time last week as Australia’s Federal MPs voted decisively against changing the Marriage Act, no doubt disappointing the majority of our nation’s citizens who support marriage equality.
While many MPs have now spoken out against same-sex marriage, while others may be in support but unable to vote with us due to Opposition leader Tony Abbott’s insistence that all Coalition MPs must vote along party lines, let’s remind ourselves how strange and confused those voting against our rights really are.
From last night’s The Hamster Wheel episode on ABC1, Craig Reucassel meets a confused Fred Nile and goes to a ‘traditional marriage’ rally in Canberra as he tries to understand the opposition to gay marriage.
Watch, wince, and laugh. Take a Chaser’s look at the arguments against marriage equality below.
