DVD - Pam Ann - Come Fly With Me
Following her hugely successful international tour One World Alliance, comes the release of Pam Ann’s first DVD, Come Fly With Me.
Pam Ann is the creation of Melbourne-born comedian Caroline Reid. A pun on the now defunct Pan Am, she is a glamorous 1960’s airline stewardess with a sharp tongue and a hot mod look. Picture a bouffant with false eyelashes protruding from lids heavily lined by blue eye shadow and a lot of pink lipstick and you’re halfway there. She is the owner and head purser of Pam Ann Airways, which takes the Mile High Club to a whole new level. Her unique blend of camp, drag and glamour, combined with Reid’s sharp wit and a liberal dose of innuendo, make this one sexy romp through the air.
Initially finding success in the UK where she frequently performs with some of London’s most respected drag queens, Reid’s creation has developed a strong fan base among London’s gay scene and UK based airline staff. Flocking to her performances, they often find themselves the object of her observational humour as Pam Ann is big on audience participation, particularly with her first class travellers – consider yourselves warned!
Establishing herself as airline hostess with the mostess, Pam Ann has played hostie to the stars having entertained an impressive array of A-listers. She’s provided in-flight entertainment for Elton John’s partner David Furnish’s 40th birthday, as well as accompanying Cher on her farewell tour and has reputedly been described by Madonna as “cruelly funny”.
Come Fly With Me is more than just another comedian DVD as Pam Ann delivers one hell of a show, recorded during one of her London performances. In-flight entertainment includes an impressive set, elaborate costume changes, a troupe of dancing boys and even a little lip-synching. Unfortunately though, her recent performances in Sydney and Melbourne were without the dancing boys and set. Pam Ann was nevertheless hilarious playing up the various quirks of the major airline’s cabin crew and the nuances of air travel. Admittedly though her humour won’t appeal to all – it’s often crass and deals with risqué themes including drug smuggling and terrorism, and manages to offend every minority group imaginable.
A highlight of the DVD features menu is her One World Alliance, which contains a bevy of Reid’s international trolley dolly creations, including the oh-so wrong, but oh-so funny, Lily. This footage together with other montages of retro air travel glamour also feature in the stage show. Incidentally, the DVD interface design is inspired and is packed with flying references, such as The Map.
So, come on board, stow your babies in the overhead compartment, put your seats in the upright position, fasten your seatbelts and switch off all electrical devices – Pam Ann is ready for take off and you’re all invited.
Pam Ann’s Come Fly With Me is in stores now through Anchor Bay Entertainment Australia.
