CD - Hey Hey, It’s Esther Blueburger - Soundtrack
This is the soundtrack to the new Aussie movie Hey Hey It’s Esther Blueburger. It introduces some of the best new Aussie talent, including ARIA award winners Operator Please, Missy Higgins, Sarah Storer and Persian Rugs and even a few tracks by The Sydney Children’s Choir.
It’s quite an enjoyable CD with some great tracks and a lot of variety, although the instrumentals by Guy Gross and the children’s choir tracks didn’t appeal to me. I’m sure this fitted in really well with the movie but not for my listening please, sorry kids. But I must say the children’s choir do some great backing vocals for other tracks on the album.
A great start to this CD is Bertie Blackman featuring as vocalist on the first track The Only One by Paul Mac, with a bit of harmonising from the children’s choir. Followed by a cool acoustic number Don’t You Think It’s Time with a bit of harmonica by Bob Evans. Missy Higgins makes an appearance with The Wrong Girl, it’s a nice easy track with a great rhythm. Operator Please carry out a fast zooped up version of The Clapping Song that would get anybody moving. Persian Rugs give a 70’s rock sound to the track Be A Woman. Surferosa come in with a pop/punk sound with Lucky Lipstick. 6/8 is another track by Operator Please in a whole different style, pretty sexy vocals on this one. Long Live The Girls is a top track by Sara Storer. Young Folks by Chasing Bailey is another nice track. Ilan Kidron & Glass finish off the disc with Bar Mitzvah Medley Hora in true party style.
So, if you loved the movie you could relive it through the soundtrack and would probably enjoy it more than if you haven’t seen it. Otherwise I enjoyed about 75% of the album and that’s pretty good for any CD purchase.
Hey Hey, It’s Esther Blueburger is in stores now through EMI.
