CD - Felix Da Housecat - G.U. 34 Milan
Felix Da Housecat gets behind the decks on his latest release, the DJ mix G.U. 34 Milan. He’s got a new artist single on the radio (also called Radio ), and having a new release for the heavyweight dance music brand Global Underground will surely keep his profile high during his new release publicity period!
Milan is a two CD pack, and it doesn’t take disc one long to show that Felix is not in the kitsch playful mode of his Kittenz & Thee Glitz (01) and Devin Dazzle & The Neon Fever (04) artist albums. Instead, he beats out a hard and minimal electro house groove that relentlessly thuds with no sign of “thee glitz” or “thee phunk”. (Not surprisingly, either. Felix earned his stripes in the pre-2001 dance world with releases under various monikers including Aphrohead, and Kittenz & Thee Glitz was actually a fabulous break from those harder edged releases).
Disc one maintains the harder electro house / techno tinged sound until its giddy end, but disc two offers some respite. It is a more commercial sounding and accessible electro set with vocals and fun bits to dance up and down to – and not just power away to. Hence you can play it at home. There’s even a 1920’s speak-easy style interlude, before Felix rounds out the second set with his own current single Radio, a somewhat ethereal little slab of electro that we’ll be hearing more of soon.
G.U. 34 Milan mixed by Felix Da Housecat is in stores now through Global Underground/Stomp.
