CD - Triple J's Hottest 100, 2007 - Various Artists
I have to admit to my secret passion for the ABC’s youth station, although it is nowhere near as edgy as it always was. I have been known to spend my Australia Day for the last few years at some sort of libation consuming event, placing bets on the top 10. The release of the double disc is always looked forward to and I have not been let down with the diversity again this year.
From Missy Higgins to the Chemical Brothers, there is truly something on here for every one. Now I can’t promise that every track will appeal, but there are some rippers on here that deserved to be right up there in the top 22 . Recent years have seen the inclusion of outfits like the Scissor Sisters, and this year there are quite a few jaunty little numbers to get you in the mood for a sing or a dance. I’m pleased to see the Panics – Triple J’s 2007 album of the year, along with outfits like Muse with their number 1 Nights Of Cydonia.
Look out for other cracking tunes like Pnau with Wild Strawberries, Lupe Fiasco with Superstar featuring Matthew Santos, and the aforementioned Chemical Brothers 2007 hit The Salmon Dance.
This has been getting loads of airplay on my iPod of late and I think this is one of the better compilations of the Hottest 100 from the last few years. Embrace the diversity and rock on cats!
Triple J’s Hottest 100 2007 is out now through ABC Music.
