Homesexual Xtreme - Gotham City @ Home, Sydney (1/10/06)

There’s nothing like the experience of a big party weekend in Sydney and one of the best parts is always the day after the night before, when the stresses of pre-party preparations are long gone and everyone has truly settled in for the long run. This year, the day after the night before delivered a brilliant, warm spring day, and whether you were fresh from a good night’s sleep or still going strong from Sleaze Ball, Home’s indoor and outdoor spaces provided the perfect combination for their latest Homesexual party, Xtreme – Gotham City.

I’ve always had a great time at Homesexual parties – there’s something great about the variety of spaces and musical styles on offer to help you find your groove, but with an epic nine-hour set from Tony Moran U.S Circuit superstar DJ and Producer on offer, there was only one place to be and that was the main room.

In the past we’ve seen some less than memorable appearances from US Circuit DJs at some of Sydney’s bigger parties, and promoters could be forgiven for not taking chances and sticking with the tried and tested local talent. However, Tony delivered an incredible high-energy set that lived up to the hype, showcasing his skills not only as a DJ but also as a producer, with a good serving of the commercial music that he has remixed for his long list of star clients, including Rihanna, Mariah Carey and Deborah Cox. He also gave us a taste of the heavier tribal style that’s more indicative of what he would play to a home crowd in the U.S.

While the Gotham City theme was sparse in comparison to previous parties, it did see some of Sydney’s favourite drag identities roving in disguise as various villains from the world of Batman, including Maxi Shield’s particularly adventurous and amazing transformation into the Penguin Lady Lilly. With the occasional fall of snow and glittering confetti in the main room, Moran’s nine-hour set flew by as the sun descended over the harbour and Gotham City sank beneath the cover of night.

As someone who usually travels to America to enjoy the circuit style of music, it was a rare treat to experience one of Tony’s sets here at home with friends. Add to this the extremely high standard of party production that we are lucky to enjoy here in Australia, and you have something truly special indeed.

Proof again that there really is no place like Home!
