Film - Quantum Of Solace
It’s Craig, Daniel Craig and he’s back bigger than ever in the 22nd Bond film – Quantum Of Solace.
Unlike any other Bond film before it, this movie follows on directly after Casino Royale – 15 minutes to be exact. James Bond is still angry and looking for revenge after the death of his only love Vespa and he’s adopted a clear policy of shoot first and not really ask any questions later.
He’s managed to track down the group that had blackmailed Vespa into betraying him and comes face to face with a big player of the Quantum group, Dominic Greene. Unlike other Bond adversaries, this baddy doesn’t cry blood or have steel teeth – he’s just plain wormy and arrogant. It’s not hard to hate him and hope that Bond gets him.
Along the way James picks up his Bond girl (that he never sleeps with) and they share something in common – she’s also on a revenge mission. But this is a new breed of Bond girl. She’s going to get the job done with or without Bond’s help. She’s tough and really doesn’t need him.
As usual with a Bond film, the global stakes are high. Quantum’s plan is to destabilise a South American regime, install a dodgy dictator (this is the guy that the Bond Girl is after) and take control of the biggest source of fresh water in the world. Could this ever happen? Not likely, but that’s why we love Bond.
Ok, I don’t think I’ve said this yet – this is an amazing movie and Craig is dazzling in it. I love the way he moves, talks and handles the action around him. He’s cool without that familiar Bond smugness. He’s grabbed this universally known character, put his own stamp on it and made it a resounding success.
The action scenes were phenomenal. Brilliantly choregraphed, shot and edited without making you feel sea sick. You know what’s going on and at the same time your right in there with it. This movie leaves you feeling excited and drained.
And while this may be a Bond for the new age, never fear – the weird girl’s names are still there. Like Pussy Galore before her, Strawberry Fields joins the ranks of beautiful Bond girls. Incidentally, she’s the fifth Bond girl that has had red hair.
My only major criticism is that at times the plot was a little hard to follow. There were times that I wasn’t sure who they were talking about, what was happening or what was about to happen and while this didn’t hurt my enjoyment of the film, it would have been better to have things a little clearer.
All in all this is a fantastic addition the world’s longest running film franchise. Daniel Craig sizzles, the action is electrifying, the girls are strong and sexy and the music is awesome.
Whether you’re Bond fan or not, this film will certainly get your heart pumping faster… even if it’s just from the sight of Craig’s amazing body.
Go and see it!
Quantum Of Solace is screening nationally through Sony Pictures.
