The tragedy that was Black Saturday in Victoria has stirred the hearts of people all around the nation and millions of dollars have been donated to assist the victims. To help with fundraising, Sony Music have released Bushfire Aid – a 2 CD collection of songs donated by the artists.

Unfortunately that’s where the generosity ends. This is honestly the most bizarre collection of tracks ever compiled. For those willing to further fund the Bushfire Appeals, the fact that you have supported those in need is probably the only comfort you will be taking home.

It would be understandable that this compilation might be some of the best of the Australian Music Industry, and it has some stand out tracks including Shannon Noll and Natalie Bassingthwaighte’s Don’t Give Up, Hunters and Collectors’ Holy Grail, Icehouse’s Great Southern Land and Paul Kelly’s Leaps And Bounds but unfortunately the remainder of Australian artists are effectively the who wasn’t who of Australian Idol.

The collection becomes a little more bizarre with the introduction of foreign artists, some who will leave you scratching your head and asking why? Like, Justin Timberlake Losing My Way, Jennifer Rush The Power of Love and the most bizarre Whitney Houston Greatest Love Of All.

I guess at the end of the day this is an interesting mix of tracks that will take you on an extended walk down music memory lane and your purchase will aid the Salvation Army Bushfire Appeal. However, it failed to move me in any way at all. I guess I’m just grateful that they settled on Jessica Mauboy’s Time After Time and not Burn.

Bushfire Aid – Artists For The Bushfire Appeal is available through Sony Music.
