Comedian Tracy Harvey wrote Call Girl after a stint working in a call centre. Even if Tracey may have been wasting her talents as a telephone operator, the experience was not wasted on her. It had a work shop season last year at the Phoenix Theatre and has hit the ground running with this revamped version.

Tracy, and director Bryce Ives, have created a fast paced show that moves us through a number of months in the life of a Call Centre, following innocent first time worker, Jean’s (Tracey Harvey), journey.

The entire ensemble shines in this show, seamlessly moving from snappy dialogue to Zany choreographed musical numbers that parody everything from Les Miserable to Bollywood. Notably chameleon performer Trevor Major had the audience in stitches as everything from an elderly woman to a (female) Bollywood dancer.

And I must mention the set; Hot pink, oversized telephone hand sets and palm trees are too kitsch for words and worked perfectly with the show over all.

I love musicals and have to say I have been constantly disappointed with the new Australian musicals I have seen in the last few years but Call Girl had me boogying in my seat and singing lyrics like “Who wants to be a Phone-y” for days!

Call Girl The Musical has been running for the last two week at Chapel-off-Chapel and I have to say the season is far to short for this hilarious new Australian Musical.

The show continues until Sunday 3rd May. Tickets can also be purchased at the Chapel off Chapel box office on 03 8290 7000
