Party - Tongue Twister

Well the girls behind Tongue Twister said that their aim was to include music and gals from the clubbing scene from the 70’s onwards and they certainly delivered.

The loud yelping you may have heard from Ashfield to Zetland and every suburb in between was the sound of 1000 dogs being left home alone as their lesbian owners ALL converged on Oxford St. The age (and fashion) range was simply incredible. Gals from 12 (okay..so they looked like 12 year old bois) to 65 proudly wore their leather, mullet, kilt, cowboy boots, vest, studded belt, dress, button-up, little shorts, whatever look onto the dance floor.

Slick marketing and word of mouth, plus the undeniable desperation of Sydney lesbians looking for anything cool to do on a Saturday night created a very excited crowd.

The crowd did seem to shift into a slightly annoyed mood for some parts of the evening – blockages on the stairs as people tried to move floor to floor, $10.50 for a bottled spirit drink, 30 min wait for bathrooms…not to mention the hassle to get through the door. Moshtix this year doesn’t seem to be a system that can cope with big events unless more door staff are used, because I’ve seen massive queues now at both Great Debate and Tongue Twister as people need to line up for their tix. Tickets were on the expensive side too, for what really just felt like another girls night, albeit a big girls night on steroids.

But all of these whinges from me just prove what a success the night was. I did a quick run up the floor sampling all the styles of music before setting on Retro. I think the dance and urban styles of music were more popular but retro wasn’t far behind in filling up it’s floor. I didn’t end up sampling the Leso ‘Oke cause it wasn’t until I was trying to find the exit that I found that floor!

My suggestions for next year (and I hope there is another event) would be to get a bigger venue that is easier to move around. Maybe one with a smoking area so the lesbians can mingle somewhere for that evil purpose. Bump up the door staff, either drop the drink prices or cover charge down, remembering that it’s not really a party crowd used to handing over so much $$$, and plan on an even bigger success!
