There is no stopping the juggernaut that is Taylor Swift. At the tender age of just 20, the country music superstar released her third album Speak Now in October 2010.
Her 2009 album Fearless earnt her four Grammy Awards, and the title of top-selling digital artist of all time. So, needless to say, expectations for Speak Now were high.
Luckily for us, Speak Now is nothing short of a beautiful collection of country pop songs. This 14 track record will cover you for those moments when you want to laugh, dance, cry, or even get some revenge on that spiteful ex! None of the songs are overly complicated or extremely intricate, but there isn’t really a need for them to be anything but simple, and I think this actually helps them stand out more.
Each song is instantly catchy, be it upbeat, poppy songs like Mine and The Story Of Us or more mellow songs like Dear John, Enchanted and Innocent.
Standout tracks for me are the haunting Never Grow Up, and the most country tinged song on the album Mean.
Swift seems to talk a lot about ex love interests or memories, or stories from her hometown and childhood in Nashville. At first it seemed strange for someone who is just 20 to have so many ‘nostalgic’ songs, but I guess being a superstar at such a young age has given her very little time to grow up. It is clear from these songs however, that Taylor Swift has a kind of maturity that many of her peers could only dream of.
Whether you are a Taylor Swift fan or not, this album inescapably works so well because the songs are relatable to people from virtually all walks of life. Swift has talent by the bucketload, and it is all on display on Speak Now.
If you are yet to experience the runaway train that is Taylor Swift, then I suggest you jump on the bandwagon now – because it will be truly worth the ride.
