It’s sexy, stunning and truly spectacular. It’s also a drag show. Now we don’t normally review drag shows on Same Same. However the incredible BOYLESQUE isn’t a drag show, it’s a visual feast and a theatrical arena spectacular that everyone should see. And if the quality of the shows featuring at GH are anything to go by, you can expect more reviews like this about the shows that are reviving the art form of drag performance.

Set against the jaw dropping backdrop of the newly renovated GH, 10 of Melbourne’s sexiest talented male dancers join showgirl icon Paris in the new weekly Friday night extravaganza, BOYLESQUE. While tight, sexy and super fit, the guys featured are an intriguing diverse mix that cross the divides of butch and femme. They move with dedicated physicality and passion.

Together over the installments of the show spread through-out the night, they take you from the streets of Paris, bustling with horny sailors, to the Amazon jungle where the natives eat you alive, to dangerous and sexy 20’s Chicago, and Berlin’s cabaret bars where sex and sleaze drip from the ceiling.

Aside from the fabulous talent featured in the show, BOYLESQUE has two other star features. The larger than life, colourful costumes are incredible down to the smallest details. They add to the entrancing visual glamour of the show. You’ll notice is that no expense has been spared in the staging of this show, and word on the street is that each staging of the show is costing the venue a pretty penny. It’s not hard to see where all the money has gone.

The other star of the show is undoubtedly the choreography, committed to the stage by the new Tony Bartucchio of Melbourne, Todd Patrick. It’s flashy, it’s pop and it’s oh-so-now! Bob Fossey inspired dance moves feature alongside dance La Cage and Moulin Rouge routines with a unique Patrick twist. Music videos and the latest pop music also inspire the excellently delivered choreography that is awesome to watch. Paris and Patrick team together to take even the gayest of drag anthems into new territory, with some fabulously original interpretations.

Since BOYLESQUE first took over the main stage at the GH it has wowed. And each week a bit more has been added to the already brilliant show as the talents of the cast develop, new costumes and show ideas arrive, and bigger audiences come along to see it. You really get the feeling that this show is driven by the performers who love putting on this groundbreaking show for the public. The result isn’t what you’d expect from a regular Friday night… it’s more likely something you’d see in the big Mardi Gras show at the Horden.

If you havn’t seen the new GH then youre really missing out on Melbourne’s biggest and best gay venue. And there’s no better night to check it out than Fridays when you can catch this truly brilliant show BOYLESQUE which sets the new standard for drag shows in Melbourne. It’s simply a must see.

BOYLESQUE plays each Friday night at the GH from 10pm.
