CD - Beyonce and Shakira - Beautiful Liar

I hate this song. There I’ve said it – let the barrage of Beyonce and Shakira fans stone me to death. I don’t care – it would be more pleasurable than having to listen to this track again.

Even though I despise it, this diabolical collaboration will no doubt chart well. The track has an overall R&B/Latin feel to it with middle eastern instrumental hooks sprinkled throughout. I personally think this combination sounds odd, but I suppose it does bring both performers’ “trademark” sound into the track therefore keeping fans of both the artists happy.

Vocally Beyonce is the stronger of the two with Shakira’s excruciating vibrato not adding much to the track except giving me the desire to plunge knitting needles into my ears. Sorry the woman’s voice just annoys the beejezus out of me.

The pair warble through some sappy lyrics about two women finding out they been shagging the same bloke but deciding not to fight between themselves over it.

“(Ay) Let’s not kill the karma
(Ay) Let’s not start a fight
(Ay) It’s not worth the drama
For a beautiful liar

Can’t we laugh about it?
(Oh) It’s not worth our time
(Oh) We can live without ‘em
Just a beautiful liar.”

Egads – how insipid! Where’s your ghetto spirit girls? Some nasty ho take my man, I’s gonna rip that weave right off her head and beat her skinny white bread ass – not sit about discussing how civilised we gonna be over it.

I really couldn’t find anything special about this track and the CD would more than likely have ended up as a coaster. However like a gift from above the CD is saved by the inclusion of a remix by the current masters of house – The Freemasons.

These dudes can do no wrong at the moment and their remixes have dominated dance floors worldwide for the last couple of years. They have had success with two of Beyonce’s previous tracks ( Déjà Vu & Ring The Alarm ) and this latest remix for the Booty Poppin’ Princess is going to be no different.

This track is huge. The out of place middle eastern hooks work amazingly with the massive house sound and the once insipid lyrics take on a more powerful feel against the dramatic feel of the track. Definitely gonna be big in the clubs and if your resident DJ isn’t playing it yet – request it.

My opinion – ditch the insipid original mix and using the remixed track, re-shoot the equally insipid original video to a new one featuring Beyonce and Shakira in a full on, knock down, scrag fight. Now that would be cool.

Beyonce and Shakira – Beautiful Liar is out now through SonyBMG.
