A food review on Same Same? What is going on? This better be good…
Well it is. It turns out rabbit food is delicious.
Only a stones-throw from our usual Oxford Street haunts, Ruby Rabbit is the best of all worlds, offering tasty meals, cheeky cocktails, and an upmarket atmosphere.
Since its spruced-up reopening late last year, the Rabbit (located at 231 Oxford Street) has hosted various clubbing nights at weekends including the girl-focussed Bitch nights and House Party Saturday nights.
But on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Sundays and in the early evenings on Fridays and Saturdays you’ll find its ground floor staff buzzing around delivering genuinely good food and drinks. All in an elegant and comfortable atmosphere.
The venue changed hands last year so forget what you may’ve heard about the previous lot’s food. Same Same went in last week to eat and found plenty on the menu to enjoy.
Adam chose the seared tuna steak done ‘Ruby Rabbit style’ with roasted capsicum, while I decided on the roasted pumpkin salad and also indulged with some chippies on the side.
As you see from the photo, our meals were served to restaurant standard. As we finished our cocktails we tucked in, and found the meals tasted as good as they looked.

Also on the menu is grilled corn-fed chicken salad, chilli prawn angel pasta, grilled chicken fajitas, a crusted beef burger and more, providing a modern take on traditional Aussie fare. Those dining for two may otherwise enjoy an antipasto platter or chef’s tasting platter to share.
Dessert was also a nice surprise. We selected the Ruby Rabbit tasting platter, which featured samples of their popular after-dinner items like handmade ice cream, chocolate soufflé, a Belguim chocolate waffle and even an amazing Mars Bar Cheesecake.

As for the drinks, naturally we had to try their Absolute Rabbit – containing raspberry vodka and Cointreau, built over berries and topped with cranberry juice and lemonade.
We can also recommend the Bitter Sweet – Campari, Bombay Sapphire muddled with fresh mint leaves and limes, shaken with cranberry and apple juice.
The prices are reasonable, but there’s never been a better time to discover Ruby Rabbit as we want our loyal Same Same readers to be VIPs at the bar. You’ll get a substantial discount on your total bill if you dine on Wednesdays, Thursdays or Sundays, plus we have dinner vouchers to give away too.
