All fans of cinema and hot Spanish men and women will soon have your chance to immerse yourselves in Spanish culture, with the start of La Mirada film festival this Thursday at ACMI, Federation Square.
La Mirada (Spanish for “through somebody’s eyes”) brings you the best new releases and classics of Spanish cinema. The festival opens with Thieves, the directorial debut from Jaime Marques’ and is a must see, if nothing but for the sexy Juan Jose Ballesta. Other highlights include Solitary Fragments, In the City of Sylvia and the Australian premiere of Oxford Murders starring Elijah Wood and John Hurt.
The festival also includes a selection of classics chosen by legendary filmmaker Pedro Almodovar and a special section dealing with flamenco called All About Flamenco. The festival director has said All About Flamenco will be “a comprehensive and emotional journey through the history of flamenco”.
