Perth’s first Pride Parade was held during the day in 1990 to protest against the oppression and discrimination that continued to be felt throughout our gay and lesbian community.
Over the years, the Parade was transformed into a spectacular display of visibility and diversity and is now held at night to mark the end of October’s Pride Festival.
Pride is continuing to implemented strategies which aim to enhance the content of the Parade and Perths Pride Parade is now the second biggest in Australia, behind Sydney’s Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras.
The Parade begins at the intersection of Brisbane and William Streets just north of Northbridge, then runs south down William Street, before turning right into James Street and finishing at Russell Square.
Crowds tend to gather along William Street near the Brass Monkey, and along James Street. Quieter viewing positions might be found further north along William Street.
