Summer Gay Day


Summer in Sydney will never be the same again. This year, for the first time, a major gay and lesbian music festival will be held on Saturday December 1 to officially ring in the start of Summer 2007.

Summer Gay Day* is a brand new summer festival to be held in a stunning parklands location from 12midday to 10pm on Saturday December 1 around Kippax Lake in Moore Park, a unique spot lined with leafy trees, acres of green grass and surrounding a gorgeous central lake.

Created specifically for the gay and lesbian community and their friends, Summer Gay Day has a talented and experienced team behind it, comprised of Margot Natoli (Tongue Twister, Bumpher Bar), Tim Duggan (Fag Tag, Get Together) and Alan Thompson (DTPM).

Three different spaces at Summer Gay Day will give partygoers a chance to experience varying music styles and scenes over a vast outdoor area. The main arena, titled simply the Summer Gay Day Stage, will focus on summer-filled partying music with a good dose of sunshine, funk and body-shaking basslines.

The second area, Summer Lovin’ on the opposite side of Kippax Lake will house the Manhunt Stage – an indoor arena where the musical style will go that little bit darker and deeper than the main arena.

The third stage, built into the side of the sweeping lake, will be Summer Camp, and is exactly what you wouldn’t expect: a live and fun space with off-the-hook comedy, cabaret, festival games and more.

Summer Gay Day will be everything you love about summer festivals, with lots of grassy space to spread out and dance, markets, food and wine stalls, wandering entertainment, the Salt Clinic Spa dome, amusement rides, several bars and thousands of sun-lovers enjoying the Sydney sunshine.

In its inaugural year, Summer Gay Day falls on World AIDS Day, and the team are currently working with a number of organizations to make sure this important date is recognized at the event.
