All About:

Description:

Internationally acclaimed Australian singer Cheryl Barker takes on the ultimate Diva role as Opera Queensland presents Puccini’s Tosca.

Napoleon is poised at the doorstep of Italy. In a climate of civil unrest and fear, the fiery singer Floria Tosca and her lover Cavaradossi are drawn into a web of ruthless power games, manipulated by a lecherous Chief of Secret Police, Baron Scarpia. Boundaries between the political and personal are blurred as the drama moves relentlessly towards its scorching climax. Undoubtedly one of Puccini’s masterworks, the thrilling music explodes with spectacular melodies and impassioned arias.

One of Australia’s favourite sopranos, Cheryl Barker, reprises her role as Tosca, with Nicholas Braithwaite conducting. John Copley’s acclaimed production, revived now under the direction of Cathy Dadd, spectacularly recreates such iconic Roman locations as the Palazzo Farnese and Castel St Angelo. This Tosca promises traditional opera at its most thrilling.
