For the GLBTQ Community, their friends and family
The second annual Parramatta Pride Picnic is in its final staging of preparations for Sunday September 21. After a highly successful inaugural picnic in 2007 the organisers are finalising details for a bigger and better picnic event for the community in Parramatta, the Hills and Western Sydney.
The picnic event is for the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transsexual, transgender and queer community as well as their friends and family.
‘Last year’s event was attended by a lot of families either supporting their queer children or what is often referred to as rainbow families. We are hoping that will happen again this year.’
Activities on the day will include drumming, touch football, volleyball, stalls as well as face painting, kite making and storytelling for all the kids. A barbeque will also be available for people who don’t want to pack a picnic hamper provided by the Western Suburbs Haven.
‘After listening to the 300 people who came last year the Forum decided to extend the hours of the picnic and include a few extras.’ The picnic will run from 11am until 4pm in the Parramatta Park.
The Parramatta Pride Picnic is organised by the Parramatta Queer Forum who are a group of service providers to the GLBTQ Community of Parramatta and Western Sydney.
